Alphonso Davies reveals shocking details behind his failed transfer to Barcelona

Alphonso Davies, the talented player from Bayern Munich, made an astonishing statement alleging that the president of Barcelona turned down the opportunity to sign him solely because he is Canadian.

Since his arrival from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019, Davies has become an integral member of the Bundesliga club, contributing significantly to their five league titles and their triumph in the 2020 Champions League.

However, during an appearance on the Say Less podcast, Davies disclosed that talks of a potential move to Barcelona collapsed due to his nationality.

Davies said: “Barcelona actually reached out but the president said they didn’t want me.

“They said they didn’t want me because I was Canadian. I’m not gonna lie that kind of crushed my feelings a little bit.”

Alphonso Davies clarified that the information about Barcelona’s president rejecting him due to his Canadian nationality was something he had heard in the media, and he could not personally confirm whether the president had actually made that statement.

It is important to note that Joan Laporta has been serving as the president of Barcelona since March 2021, succeeding interim leader Carles Tusquets in that role.

Recently, Alphonso Davies’ agent, Nick Huoseh, stated that he has been in discussions with other clubs regarding Davies’ future. Currently under contract with Bayern Munich until 2025, ongoing contract negotiations are taking place between Davies and the German champions. It is speculated that reaching out to potential suitors may be a strategy to incentivize Bayern Munich to meet Davies’ preferences.

Rumors have connected Davies with a potential move to Real Madrid, although it is believed that Real Madrid would prefer to wait until next year when Davies will have only one year remaining on his contract.

Another contender in the race to sign Davies is Manchester City, the reigning Champions League winners, who are reportedly competing with Real Madrid for his signature.

There have been suggestions that Alphonso Davies might be considering a departure from Germany, partly due to feelings of loneliness in Munich.

Davies said: “Life as a professional footballer is very cool, no doubt. You can chill and enjoy life, but, after training, there’s nothing to do.

“For me, because I don’t have a family and my girlfriend is not living with me, I’m by myself.

“It’s a little bit worrying not having something to do and especially when all your friends have work.

“I probably have like five friends. I’m a popular loser.”

During his tenure at Bayern Munich over the past four years, Alphonso Davies has accumulated an impressive record of more than 106 appearances for the club, finding the back of the net on six occasions.

Additionally, representing the Canadian national team, Davies has participated in 39 matches and has scored 13 goals while wearing the Canadian colors.
