Arsenal drop hint three players are about to leave as Thomas Partey transfer takes twist

Arsenal has announced their squad for the US pre-season tour, hinting at the possible departure of three players. Thomas Partey, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, is included in the team but will join his teammates at a later stage.

Mikel Arteta remains determined to rebuild Arsenal this season, even after their strong performance in the previous season’s Premier League title race. The arrivals of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber mark the start of summer signings, with more investments expected.

Arteta seems to have already indicated his intentions to part ways with certain players before the 2023/24 season begins. Nicolas Pepe, Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Cedric have all been excluded from Arsenal’s squad list for the pre-season tour, a significant indication of their potential departure.

Their announcement read: “The players who are not part of the squad will be working hard on their fitness and/or recovering from injury.”

Additionally, Emile Smith Rowe and Partey were also absent from the squad list, but they are expected to join the team next week. Partey has garnered interest from various Saudi Pro League clubs, fueling speculation about his desire to move to the Middle East.

However, Arsenal is demanding a substantial fee for his transfer, which doesn’t seem likely to happen soon since the Ghanaian midfielder is scheduled to travel to the US with the team.

Pepe has faced difficulties since his £72 million transfer to the Emirates Stadium in 2019. Despite scoring six goals in 19 league appearances during his loan spell at Nice last season, his performance did not convince the higher-ups at Arsenal that he has a future with the club.

Although there have been links to several European clubs expressing interest in the 28-year-old, no concrete bid has been made for his services so far. The exact amount Arsenal will demand for the Ivorian international remains uncertain.

Cedric, who was loaned to Fulham in the January transfer window last season, expressed his desire to compete for a place at Arsenal.

However, the club is not preparing for his inclusion in the upcoming season, as the newly signed Timber provides the desired depth at the right-back position. With only 12 months remaining on his contract, the Portuguese international is unlikely to generate significant funds for the club.

Similarly, Lokonga had a loan spell in the Premier League last season, joining Crystal Palace under the guidance of Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.

The Belgian midfielder performed well in the heart of Palace’s midfield, but he will need to show further improvement if he wants to establish a career with the Gunners. Burnley has expressed interest in Lokonga, with former Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany now in charge, having approved the playmaker’s move to Arsenal.
