After the conclusion of Arsenal’s 2022/23 season four weeks ago, it was unexpected for them to be engaged in a transfer dispute that doesn’t revolve around Declan Rice.

Currently, the main focus of Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar, the team’s manager and technical director respectively, is to secure the signing of the West Ham player.

As the summer transfer window has opened, Arsenal plans to submit a revised offer of £100 million to West Ham, having previously had a bid of £80 million plus potential add-ons worth £10 million rejected.

For a while now, Arsenal has been in search of a commanding midfielder and center-back to strengthen their team. However, there was a surprising development with rumors linking them to Kai Havertz, a forward from Chelsea.

According to information obtained by football.london, Arsenal’s interest in Havertz is genuine, but the reported asking price of £70 million may pose challenges in negotiations.

As of now, the two clubs are still far from reaching an agreement. In an ideal scenario, Chelsea would reduce their asking price to avoid the risk of losing Havertz on a free transfer in two years.

However, Chelsea’s previous stance on players with expiring contracts, as demonstrated with Mason Mount, suggests they are unlikely to compromise easily on such assets.

In addition to the financial uncertainties surrounding the potential deal, Arsenal is also facing competition from Bayern Munich in their pursuit of Kai Havertz. The reigning Bundesliga champions have been consistently linked with the 24-year-old, and their interest has only intensified since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as their manager.

However, a reliable German publication, BILD, has reported that Bayern Munich will not pursue Havertz primarily because they are focused on signing a top-tier striker. It is understood that Tuchel has identified Randal Kolo Muani, Victor Osimhen, and Dusan Vlahovic as forwards who rank higher on his priority list than Havertz.

The situation becomes complex as all three of Bayern Munich’s preferred targets have attracted interest from other clubs across Europe. To begin with, Randal Kolo Muani has been on Manchester United’s radar for a while, and it is expected that he will depart Eintracht Frankfurt after an impressive debut season in Germany.

Victor Osimhen, on the other hand, might leave Napoli this summer as he has reportedly been hesitant to commit his future to the reigning Serie A champions. Interestingly, Chelsea, despite the irony, are said to be interested in the prolific goal-scorer and could consider a move to strengthen their attacking options under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

In addition to Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic is another player who has caught the attention of Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea. The signing of Christopher Nkunku at Stamford Bridge reduces the urgency to find a direct replacement for Havertz, should he depart. However, there is an expectation that Chelsea will bring in a new number nine before the start of the Premier League season in August.

Several reports from Italy have indicated that Chelsea has offered Juventus the opportunity to select from a group of players including Christian Pulisic, Trevoh Chalobah, Romelu Lukaku, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Kalidou Koulibaly as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Dusan Vlahovic.

If Chelsea successfully secure a blockbuster deal for either Dusan Vlahovic or Victor Osimhen, and Manchester United emerges as the winners in the pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani, it would leave Bayern Munich with only Kai Havertz as their preferred target.

Fortunately for Arsenal, Chelsea might encounter difficulties in winning the race for either of the strikers due to the financial aspects of the deal. The Blues have already spent over £600 million in the last two transfer windows, and they are not expected to have the same level of spending due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

With Bayern Munich’s interest focused elsewhere, it opens up a clear pathway for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal to strengthen their squad by signing Havertz in the upcoming weeks.
