Arsenal may be entering the competition with Manchester United to acquire the services of Jeremie Frimpong, a talented player from Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal has been quite active in the transfer market this season, having already made significant moves.

One of their notable signings was German forward Kai Havertz, who arrived from Chelsea for a hefty fee of £65m, becoming their first acquisition of the summer.

Two additional signings are anticipated to join Arsenal’s ranks. Declan Rice is on the verge of completing a transfer from West Ham to the Emirates Stadium, which would set a new club record. Additionally, Jurrien Timber is nearing the finalization of his move from Ajax.

These potential acquisitions would push Arsenal’s spending beyond £200m for this summer, and it seems that their activity in the transfer market is not yet concluded.

According to German publication Sport Bild, there are reports that Jeremie Frimpong, the right-back from Bayer Leverkusen, is being considered by Arsenal. Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, is interested in adding a more attacking-minded right-sided defender to the team, and Frimpong is seen as a suitable candidate for that role.

The potential transfer appears to have some positive aspects, as Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly open to selling the player. Furthermore, they have seemingly secured a replacement for Frimpong in the form of Arthur, who was signed from Atletico Mineiro in Brazil.

Frimpong, who is 22 years old, joined Leverkusen from Celtic in the middle of the 2020/21 season and has since made 95 appearances, contributing 11 goals and 20 assists. He currently has two years remaining on his contract with Leverkusen at the BayArena.

If Arsenal decides to pursue Jeremie Frimpong, they might face competition from Manchester United, as the Red Devils are also interested in signing the player. Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, is reportedly interested in bringing his compatriot to the club.

Despite Frimpong’s impressive performances, he encountered some controversy with his national team manager, Ronald Koeman. The former Everton and Barcelona coach expressed his dissatisfaction with Frimpong after the player declined the opportunity to represent the Dutch under-21 side at the European Championship this summer.

He said: “Not good. I don’t think that’s okay. The Dutch Juniors are playing a European Championship. If a player thinks he’s gone beyond that level, I think you’re making the wrong decision.”

Although Frimpong is one of the players Arsenal might consider signing before the transfer window closes, they do have other options. There has been a longstanding connection between Spanish fullback Ivan Fresneda and a move to North London, but it seems that he is nearing a transfer to Barcelona.

Another possibility for Arsenal is to pursue RB Leipzig’s talented player Benjamin Henrichs, and discussions have already started with his representatives. However, RB Leipzig is not eager to sell him, as their coach Marco Rose considers him an important part of their team for the upcoming season.
