Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta still need eight transfers to complete dream scenario

Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta still has a lot of work to do in order to trim the squad, as outstanding agreements remain.

Mikel Arteta is nearing his ideal Arsenal lineup.

Mikel Arteta participated in a preseason match prior to the start of the Premier League because he had to select a twenty-man squad for the Community Shield.

The group he chose, which was drastically reduced from those in preseason in America, performed admirably.

Leandro Trossard’s deflected shot in the 101st minute of regulation time helped Arsenal win their first trophy of the season on penalties, edging out their opponents.

With the additions of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Kai Havertz, the first team is essentially the same as it was last year.

However, there have been a number of significant changes.

Granit Xhaka has departed after playing a key role in last season’s success, while Thomas Partey’s future remains uncertain despite being among the top performers at Wembley.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is back on the sideline after missing the second half of the 2022/23 season due to a lengthy injury layoff.

Emile Smith Rowe also appeared from the substitute, and the squad’s depth appears to be more secure.

However, with a 25-man squad to be named for Premier League action overall and 20-man matchday regulations still in effect, Arteta must still whittle down the London Colney-based players.

Nicolas Pepe has not yet found a new team as he seeks an early release from his contract; it expires in 2024, but both the player and the club are eager to terminate their association this summer.

It had been believed that the Ivorian’s contract would be terminated in order to facilitate his free transfer to another club, but this may not be the case.

Reportedly, his representatives have been unable to reach a mutual termination agreement with Besiktas waiting in the wings to sign him.

The Turkish side is reportedly growing impatient with the delay and may pursue other players if a transfer is not made feasible.

The Gunners have allowed players to depart in a similar manner in the past, and the 28-year-old has already agreed to personal terms with Besiktas for a move.

Additional negotiations are scheduled to take place. Now that the assailant is injured and in limbo, it serves no one’s interests for him to linger.

“At the moment he is recovering from an injury which is why he’s not here,” Arteta stated in July.

“He had a spell on loan and obviously we wanted to get much more than we got from that loan spell. We have to see when we come back, understand what the plans are and make the right decision for him.”

Pepe is not the only athlete awaiting the completion of a transfer. According to football.london, Brazilian winger Marquinhos is close to joining Nantes on loan, but the deal has not yet been finalized. He was not a member of the team that faced City, but he did play in preseason.

Kieran Tierney was involved at Wembley and entered the field to replace Timber at left-back, only for Cole Palmer to dismantle him.

Tierney is an outsider to the squad due to the versatility of Tomiyasu and Timber, as well as the foundation established by Oleksandr Zinchenko when healthy.

He could leave to reignite his career and recoup funds for Arsenal.

Matt Turner is moving to Nottingham Forest after spending one season as the backup goalkeeper in north London.

This transaction is not yet finalized, but an announcement is imminent. Cedric Soares and Nuno Tavares are no longer in Arteta’s plans, but neither has found a new club to play for.

Albert Sambi Lokonga is anticipated to leave on loan once again, and Folarin Balogun is eager to leave his boyhood club, but no offer has been approved for the striker as of yet.

Even though the majority of the squad is relatively resolved at this point, there is still much work to be done before Saturday’s match against Forest.
