Barcelona have only 13 players registered with La Liga at the moment – report

Barcelona aims to enhance their team during the summer transfer window in Spain, as they seek to protect their La Liga championship and compete for success in European competitions next season.

Nevertheless, before they can bring in new players, the Barcelona team must address a crucial matter: registering the contracts of multiple players.

Currently, as of July 1, according to information from the official website of La Liga (as reported by Mundo Deportivo), Barcelona has only 13 players from their first-team squad registered with the league.

The reason behind this is the non-registration of contract renewals for players such as Inaki Pena, Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto, and Marcos Alonso.

The previous contracts of these four players expired on June 30, 2023, but they have since renewed their deals. However, due to Barcelona’s Financial Fair Play situation, the new contracts have not been officially registered yet.

Fortunately, Barcelona’s economic vice-president, Eduard Romeu, has provided assurance that the club administration will not encounter any issues in paying €6.67 million to La Liga. This payment serves as a guarantee for the economic viability plan.

Currently, only 13 first-team players are officially registered. They are Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Franck Kessie, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Robert Lewandowski, Ousmane Dembele, and Raphinha.

It’s worth noting that Gavi’s registration was initially revoked, but the court later overturned this decision and allowed for the registration of his new first-team contract.

As for Alejandro Balde, he is still under his subsidiary contract and is not included in the registered list. However, it is expected that he will sign a new contract soon, which should also be registered without any issues following the guarantee payment.

Additionally, Ilkay Gundogan, who recently joined from Manchester City, has not been registered yet.

Barcelona aims to prioritize the registration of the players mentioned above as soon as possible. Once these registrations are completed, the club can focus on pursuing their targets in the transfer market. However, it is important for Barcelona to sell players first in order to create room for new signings.
