Barcelona Rekindle Talks for Cancelo from Man City After Squad Omission

Barcelona have’reopened talks with Manchester City to sign Joao Cancelo’ after he was left out of the team for the 3-0 win against Burnley in the Premier League opener.

Cancelo played in pre-season for City but was left out of the squad against Burnley.

Barcelona is apparently interested in him and has reopened negotiations.

According to rumours, Barcelona has reopened talks with Manchester City about signing Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo’s future at the Premier League winners is uncertain, with the 29-year-old having spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich after falling out of favor with Pep Guardiola.

Mail Sport reported in January that the Portugal international was involved in a heated training field brawl with the Spanish manager, which resulted in his stunning departure from the club.

But it now appears that he will leave the Etihad once more, with Barcelona in communication with City and Cancelo’s representation, according to Fabrizio Romano.

According to the Italian journalist, Xavi’s side sees Cancelo, whose contract at the Etihad expires in 2027, as a top target, and that talks will continue in the coming days.

According to sources, Xavi’s Barcelona consider the Portugal international to be a priority target.

Barcelona has been interested in bringing the defender to Catalonia for some time, with Mail Sport stating in May that the LaLiga club was interested in signing him on a season-long loan.

The club were believed to be in talks to sign the defender yesterday, with Guardiola denying claims from his former colleague, Xavi, that he had blocked a move to the Spanish giants back in January.

Cancelo, who joined Manchester City in 2019 for £27.4 million, instead went on to play 21 times for Bayern in all competitions, notably helping Thomas Tuchel’s team win the Bundesliga title on the final day of the season.

Following his departure from City, he maintained that his surprise move to the Bundesliga had nothing to do with his relationship with Guardiola.

Interestingly, the Bavarian club refused to exercise a £62 million option to sign the defender on a permanent basis.

Cancelo appeared in three preseason matches for Manchester City this summer but was left out of the squad for Friday’s Premier League win over Burnley.
