Barcelona’s Laporta Makes Another Statement Over Messi Decision

The Lionel Messi saga has come to an end as the Argentine has decided to join Inter Miami on July 1st. Nonetheless, discussions about this decision continue.

Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, spoke about the 35-year-old’s choice to leave Europe during an appearance on Spanish television channel Esport 3.

In addition, Laporta provided details about his negotiations and conversations with Messi, disclosing that Messi had expressed sincere interest in reuniting with the club.

“Messi wanted to return to Barca,” Laporta said (h/t RMC Sport). “He had a very difficult time in Paris. His father told me that he didn’t want to have that pressure. The Catalans respect him. May he do very well in Miami. Barca will always be his at home.”

Laporta’s disclosure provides some insight into the complexities and difficulties Barcelona faced in their efforts to bring Messi back. The club’s precarious financial situation likely had a significant impact on the decision-making process.

While Messi’s legacy at Barcelona remains strong, it seems that a proper farewell at Camp Nou is unlikely to occur in the near future. For now, fans will have to follow the journey of the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner in Major League Soccer (MLS).
