Breakthrough: Chelsea now agree terms with Nicolas Jackson ahead of Stamford Bridge transfer

David Ornstein reports that Chelsea has reached an agreement with Nicolas Jackson, the forward from Villarreal, in preparation for his move to Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino has taken up the managerial role in London and seems to be initiating his transfer strategies for the upcoming 2023/24 season. Despite the imminent arrival of attacker Christopher Nkunku, Pochettino and his team are prioritizing the acquisition of a striker. There have been speculations linking Chelsea to potential targets such as Victor Osimhen from Napoli and Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus.

However, Nicolas Jackson is also attracting significant interest from Chelsea, as the club has recently engaged in negotiations with Villarreal regarding the forward. Jackson, who has a release clause of €35m (£29.8m), appears to be a noteworthy candidate on Chelsea’s radar.

It appears that progress has been made in the discussions with Nicolas Jackson, as David Ornstein has disclosed on Twitter that Chelsea and the player have reached an agreement on the terms. Ornstein also shared an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of a new midfielder, alongside the positive development with Jackson.

“Chelsea have agreed terms with Nicolas Jackson + intend to strike deal with Villarreal. €35m clause if needed. 21yo striker has committed.

“BHAFC rejected £60m CFC Caicedo bid 2wks ago – Lavia, Kone, Tonali, Barella among alternatives.”

Who is Nicolas Jackson?

At the age of 21, Nicolas Jackson is predominantly a center-forward but is also capable of playing on the wing, making him a versatile option for Mauricio Pochettino in the attacking third of the pitch.

During the 2022/23 season, the Senegalese international showcased impressive performances, leading to a substantial increase in his market value from €1m to €30m within the span of one year according to Transfermarkt.

Across 38 matches in various competitions, Jackson scored 13 goals and provided five assists. Journalist Josh Bunting has described him as an “exciting” player, while football talent scout Jacek Kulig praised his remarkable run of form towards the end of the season, labeling it as “incredible.”

Indeed, Chelsea has shown a tendency to target young and promising talents in their recent signings. Players such as Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Enzo Fernandez, Carney Chukwuemeka, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, and David Datro Fofana, all aged 22 or younger, have been brought in by the club over the past 12 months.

Given this trend, Nicolas Jackson could very well be the next exciting prospect to join Stamford Bridge. Chelsea is aware of the €35m release clause in his contract and could activate it if they cannot negotiate a lower transfer fee. It appears to be a matter of time before the forward makes his move to England.
