Caicedo Arsenal masterplan revealed as Edu hunts for ideal Declan Rice companion

Arsenal’s interest in Brighton’s talented player Moises Caicedo remains strong as they consider a summer transfer. In the previous January transfer window, Arsenal made two unsuccessful attempts to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder, but he ended up signing a new contract with Brighton.

However, despite his new deal, Brighton’s manager Roberto De Zerbi has acknowledged that the 21-year-old is likely to depart the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Arsenal and their London rivals Chelsea have been mentioned as the top contenders to secure his services.

According to  The Evening Standard, Moises Caicedo’s versatility is a key factor that makes him highly desirable. Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, reportedly sees potential in the young midfielder to excel in multiple positions.

Caicedo has demonstrated his ability to play as a defensive midfielder (no.6), as well as a more advanced role as a free-roaming midfielder (no.8). Additionally, he even filled in as a right-back towards the end of the 2022/23 season.

However, acquiring both Caicedo and their primary midfield target, Declan Rice, could come at a significant cost for Arsenal, estimated to be close to £200 million.

This hefty price tag would likely require the club to generate considerable funds through player sales, particularly since Arteta is also aiming to reinforce the team’s defensive line in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal believes they have put together a strong offer for West Ham United captain Declan Rice, but they understand that the final decision will rest with the player himself. Several other top European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Manchester United, have also shown interest in Rice.

The Gunners are eager to avoid getting into a bidding war and have previously demonstrated their willingness to walk away from priority targets, as seen with Lisandro Martinez and Mykhailo Mudryk, who ended up joining Manchester United and Chelsea, respectively.

Arsenal is now preparing an official offer for the talented England international. Out of respect for West Ham’s participation in the Europa Conference League against Fiorentina, Arsenal has chosen to wait until after the conclusion of the match before submitting their offer.

On Thursday, West Ham chairman David Sullivan stated that it is highly probable that Declan Rice has played his final game for the club. This announcement came after West Ham’s victory over Fiorentina in the mentioned final.

It suggests that Rice is likely to depart the east London club in the near future.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Sullivan said: “I think it has to be [Rice’s final game for West Ham]. We promised him he could go. He set his heart on going.

“You can’t ask for a man who has committed more to us this season. In due course, he has to get on and we have to get a replacement – or several replacements.

“It’s not something we want to happen. We offered him £200,000-a-week 18 months ago. He turned it down. It’s cost him £10million to stay at West Ham in that time (in lost wages). And he wants to go. You can’t keep a player who doesn’t want to be there.”
