Chelsea ‘considering’ entering the race to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire

Chelsea ‘considering’ entering the race to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

Harry Maguire’s captaincy at Manchester United is in question as manager Erik ten Hag informed him that he won’t be the captain in the upcoming season.

This decision has been anticipated by fans for a while, especially considering Maguire’s reduced involvement in the starting lineup last season, having been selected only eight times in the Premier League.

Despite expressing his determination to compete and give his best, there are speculations that Maguire might depart from the club, with rumors circulating even before the recent decision.

Chelsea consider Harry Maguire

According to The Sun, there are reports that Chelsea is contemplating joining the competition to secure the signing of Harry Maguire.

The Mail previously stated that Chelsea’s new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has been an admirer of Maguire for a long time and had attempted to sign him for Tottenham, but Leicester City won the race at that time.

From Manchester United’s perspective, this potential development would be favorable as Chelsea is one of the few clubs capable of meeting Maguire’s salary demands.

It is worth noting that Manchester United has already conducted business with Chelsea this summer, having acquired Mason Mount.

The Sun’s report suggests that while United initially desires £50 million for Maguire, they may be willing to accept a lower fee, potentially as little as £30 million.

Harry Maguire loses captaincy

The recent revelation that Harry Maguire announced he would not be the captain of Manchester United before the club did has highlighted a slight disconnect between him and the team. Maguire expressed his strong disappointment on Instagram, and according to The Sun, he was reportedly “angry, shocked, and upset” about the decision.

Several other clubs, including West Ham and Tottenham, have shown interest in signing Maguire. Should he choose to remain at Manchester United, he is expected to maintain a professional attitude and avoid causing any issues.

However, this decision has opened the door for his potential departure, and the club will carefully consider any offers they receive for him.
