Ben Chilwell, a prominent player for Chelsea, expressed his deep sorrow on Tuesday evening following the news of his father’s demise due to a long-standing illness.

Wayne, the father of the English defender, passed away, causing grief within the Chilwell family. While the specifics of his health condition were not disclosed, Ben’s sister, Alex, acknowledged that it had been a challenging year for their family.

Following Wayne’s departure, Chilwell took to social media to honor his father, reminiscing about their shared moments, including the joyous celebration on the field in 2021 after Chelsea’s remarkable triumph over Manchester City in the Champions League.

“The reason I am where I am,’ he said on Instagram alongside a photo of him driving in the car next to him.

“The most loving dad, who always put everyone before himself and made everyone smile and laugh.

“But more importantly we shared so many amazing memories away from football which I will remember forever.

“I will miss you every single day Dad. I love you so much.”
