De Zerbi willing to sell Moises Caicedo to Chelsea but on one condition

De Zerbi willing to sell Moises Caicedo to Chelsea but on one condition

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has expressed his desire to make a swap deal with Chelsea, proposing the transfer of Levi Colwill in exchange for Moises Caicedo.

The potential deal was mentioned in a press conference and reported by the Evening Standard.

Chelsea has been showing keen interest in signing Moises Caicedo during this summer transfer window.

However, their attempts to secure the Ecuadorian midfielder for a price lower than Brighton’s valuation have been unsuccessful so far.

Recently, it came to light, as reported by the Independent, that Brighton turned down a second bid from Chelsea, which was approximately £70m for Caicedo.

Meanwhile, Brighton’s own £30m offer for Levi Colwill was rejected by Chelsea. Colwill had an impressive loan spell with Brighton last season, making him an attractive prospect for the Seagulls.

Here’s what De Zerbi said while talking about both the players and offering a swap deal to Chelsea (h/t Evening Standard):

“There are two questions. Not only about Caicedo, also about Colwill, and maybe it can be [a swap].

“I would like to play with Caicedo and Colwill together but at the moment I can only speak about Caicedo as Colwill is not one of my players.”

Brighton’s stance in the transfer market has proven to be challenging to navigate, making it difficult for Chelsea to achieve their desired objectives of retaining Levi Colwill and acquiring Moises Caicedo. It seems unlikely that both transactions will occur during this summer transfer window.

For the possibility of making these moves a reality, Chelsea will need to meet Brighton’s asking price for Caicedo and be willing to pay the required amount to finalize the deal.

Given that Wesley Fofana is facing a long-term injury, Chelsea cannot offer a combination of cash and Colwill in the hope of persuading Brighton to accept the offer for the midfielder.

The situation leaves Chelsea with limited options to satisfy Brighton’s demands and secure the players they are interested in this transfer window.

Indeed, Levi Colwill has emerged as a promising young talent at Chelsea and is considered an excellent defender with a bright future at Stamford Bridge.

At just 20 years old, he has already shown his potential to become one of the top players in his position with the right training and regular playing time.

It’s understandable that Chelsea would be hesitant to part ways with such a talented prospect.

On the other hand, Moises Caicedo’s arrival could significantly strengthen Chelsea’s midfield, especially with the departures they have experienced during the summer.

The Ecuadorian midfielder is highly regarded for his quality and skills, which would be a valuable addition to Chelsea’s squad.

Finding a way to secure the Caicedo deal without sacrificing a promising talent like Colwill would be the ideal scenario for Chelsea.

The club’s management, led by Todd Boehly and others, will need to negotiate skillfully with Brighton to reach an agreement that satisfies both parties and allows Chelsea to bolster their midfield without giving up a potential star in Colwill.

Striking the right balance in the transfer market is always a challenge, but it’s essential to maintain a strong squad for the future while also addressing immediate needs.
