Liverpool’s summer reconstruction seems poised to continue as they prepare to acquire Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Reds recently agreed to meet the £60m release clause in the RB Leipzig player’s contract. This move follows their activation of the £35m clause in Alexis Mac Allister’s agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion last month.

There was a time when the focus of Liverpool’s transfer rumors revolved around Jude Bellingham. Despite his immense talent and the desires of supporters, it became evident that the Borussia Dortmund prodigy would not fit within Jurgen Klopp’s allotted budget. While the English international completed a transfer to Real Madrid for an initial fee of £88.5m, Liverpool explored alternative targets.

The lack of news after the Mac Allister announcement briefly caused some unease, considering there was only one week remaining until Liverpool’s first-team squad returned to the AXA Training Centre for pre-season preparations. However, the announcement of an agreement with Leipzig for Szoboszlai has alleviated those concerns.

The additions of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai to the midfield bring a sense of excitement, as they form a dynamic and youthful partnership that offers versatility.

Mac Allister has demonstrated his capabilities across various midfield positions, showcasing his adaptability. On the other hand, Szoboszlai’s skill set allows him to be effective in attacking roles centrally or even as a wide winger. This combination provides Liverpool with options and coverage in different areas of the midfield.

The signings of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai align with Klopp’s adjusted formation, which played a significant role in Liverpool’s strong finish to the recent Premier League season, going unbeaten in their last 11 matches.

The modified formation deviated from Klopp’s traditional 4-3-3, incorporating a defensive trio that allowed Trent Alexander-Arnold to advance into midfield. This setup involved two midfielders sitting in front of the defense, while the others joined the attacking quintet.

Considering this, Liverpool still require further reinforcement in specific areas to bolster their quest to regain the top spot in the league. To complete the midfield equation, they would benefit from acquiring a defensive-minded runner who can complement Alexander-Arnold’s role. Kephren Thruam could potentially fit this profile.

Regarding the left-sided role in defense, Klopp must decide whether to stick with Andy Robertson or seek a center-back option. Robertson has demonstrated his ability to fill that position for both his country and club last season. However, securing the versatile Micky van de Ven as a final signing would provide valuable rotation and serve as an understudy in that area.

Liverpool’s dream line-up (3-2-5): Alisson; Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson/Micky van de Ven; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Khephren ThuramDominik SzoboszlaiAlexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz.
