Enzo Fernandez and Caicedo Injury Updates, Anticipated Comeback Timelines for Chelsea Prior to Crucial Crystal Palace Encounter

A plethora of injury concerns plague Chelsea ahead of their match against Crystal Palace.

Chelsea has an injury issue with Moises Caicedo.

With the Premier League fixtures coming up quickly before the new year, it’s the season to be cheerful, but Chelsea supporters will be hoping for more happiness in the months to come.

For Blues supporters, the season has been somewhat dull as the team had its poorest finish in the current top tier.

Although there was considerable expectation that they would advance after spending heavily on transfers throughout the summer, it hasn’t happened yet.

Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager, has had difficulty putting everything together as he juggles young players with injuries and the need to succeed.

With the same number of games played, the west London team is actually four points worse off this season than they were last, which increases the strain.

It implies that the following game, Crystal Palace, might either relieve some of the strain or increase it.

In the event that the head coach’s job is in doubt, he will be hoping that some of his major injury worries would be resolved quickly.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the most recent worries ahead of a crucial game against the Eagles on Wednesday.

Enzo Fernandez

In the Carabao Cup quarterfinal last week against Newcastle, the Argentine was taken off the field after just thirty minutes by Armando Broja.

Before being seen crying during full time, Fernandez went straight down the tunnel. Afterwards, it became known that he was taking care of a hernia.

Moises Caicedo

Moises Caicedo, who was not there for the previous game’s loss to Wolves, is another member of the high-paid midfield group.

The Ecuadorian international missed the match due to illness, and it is presently unknown if he will play Crystal Palace again. This information was later disclosed.

What Pochettino stated:

“No, Enzo no. But Mo, hopefully yes. Today he was better, yesterday [Saturday] he was a possibility – but it’s a high fever. I hope he can train a little bit and be ready for Palace.”

Ben Chilwell

Chilwell was knocked down toward the end of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup match against Brighton in September.

Sadly for the Blues defender, the team soon discovered that the muscle problem was more serious than initially believed, although he now seems to be getting close to being fully recovered.

What Pochettino said: “Chilly and Fofana, who maybe need more time.”

Possible return date: 2024.

Reece James

James has returned from the treatment room, but his hamstring injury from the match against Everton has kept him out of action once again.

What Pochettino has said: “I think he feels well. We were talking and he has started his recovery, he is one day closer to being with the group. This is really positive, we are all positive around him, we are going to help, involved in this way.

“It is always tough for a player with a very complicated, difficult season for him. Now is the process to start to recover. One day less until he is part of the group and we are going to take in a positive way because the most important thing is to start to solve the problem and of course, helping him to be strong, being positive.

“It is an important thing and that is why this amazing institute that the club has to support in that case for Reece to be in his best form and recover as soon as possible.”

Possible return date: March/April 2024.

Robert Sanchez

Despite sustaining a knee injury in the loss to Manchester United, the goalie was cleared to play against Everton.

But after hurting himself in the second half, Sanchez made his injury worse and had to be replaced by Djordje Petrovic.

What Pochettino said: “I think always when you suffer an injury and he was our No.1 goalkeeper so far, always a player you are going to miss. I think we have another goalkeeper who is working really hard to be ready, when this type of thing happens..

“It is an injury that’s going to be for a few weeks, I don’t know if two, three, four, five or six. We will assess day-by-day to know how to follow it. His recovery will depend on him and the reaction of his knee and it is difficult to say in two or three weeks but we hope [he is back] as soon as possible.”

Possible return date: January 2024.

Marc Cucurella

Last week, the left-back gave fans a social media update on his condition, sharing two images of his left ankle in a cast.

Cucurella appears to be using crutches at this point as he gradually intensifies his recuperation.

What Cucurella said: “Time to come back stronger!”

Possible return date: Unknown.

Romeo Lavia

Lavia hasn’t made his team debut yet because he has been dealing with an ankle injury ever since moving to Stamford Bridge.

The teenager’s journey to rehabilitation took a significant turn for the worse last month, delaying his projected return date until December.

What Pochettino said: “Lavia still not [ready for Newcastle]. Christoph was involved in the last game on Saturday and will be involved. Today he was training well. Maybe he will have the possibility to be involved in some minutes in the game.”

Possible return date: Crystal Palace (H) – Wednesday, December 27.

Lesley Ugochukwu

On Christmas Eve, Ugochukwu started against the Wolves but was substituted out due to what looked to be an injury.

Although it’s unclear if the problem will prevent him from playing in the Palace encounter, Pochettino stated that additional evaluations of his fitness will be conducted prior to the game.

What Pochettino has said: “With Lesley, we will assess him tomorrow, but I think he felt his hamstring again. I said in the press conference it is important how we reintroduce players, but we were forced because of the problem with Moises to play Lesley.”

Possible return date: Unknown

Trevoh Chalobah

Chalobah has not yet made an appearance for Chelsea this season due to a thigh injury.

Now that he’s back, he’s working out on the grass, though apparently not with his teammates yet.

What Pochettino said: N/A

Possible return date: Unknown.

Carney Chukwuemeka

Chukwuemeka had a knock prior to the Arsenal match and was placed on the bench for the Burnley match; nevertheless, the midfield player suffered yet another setback.

He had an earlier in the season injury against West Ham United that has been bothering him.

What Pochettino said: N/A

Possible return date: Unknown

Wesley Fofana

Fofana tore his ACL during preseason workouts, meaning he will miss the most of the season. Despite this, he has resumed working out on the Cobham pitches.

What Pochettino has said: “Chilly and Fofana, who maybe needs more time.”

Possible return date: April 2024.
