Erik ten Hag Current Stance on Frenkie de Jong Transfer Following Previous Agreement

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has taken note of past experiences and will not be pursuing a transfer agreement for Frenkie de Jong during the upcoming summer.

The talented Barcelona player decided to remain at the Nou Camp despite interest from his former coach a year ago. Instead, it is probable that Chelsea’s Mason Mount will be considered as an alternative option for Manchester United.

Last summer, Manchester United dedicated a significant amount of time and effort in their pursuit of De Jong, believing that the Barcelona player would be receptive to joining their club.

They even reached an agreement on the transfer fee, as Barcelona showed willingness to let go of the midfielder. However, they ultimately missed out on signing him, as Casemiro ended up moving from Real Madrid instead.

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, it is reported that Ten Hag has “learnt his lesson” and has decided not to pursue De Jong during this summer transfer window.

Instead, the 53-year-old manager is focusing on securing the services of Mason Mount from Chelsea. Mount, an English international, is reportedly open to the idea of leaving Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United are confident in their ability to secure Mason Mount, who currently has only one year remaining on his contract with Chelsea. Despite reports indicating that Chelsea may demand a transfer fee of up to £75 million to part ways with the midfielder, United remain optimistic about their chances.

Mount is not the only player on United’s radar as they aim to close the gap on Manchester City in the upcoming season. The club recognizes the need for a new striker, especially considering Anthony Martial’s inconsistent performances.

Wout Weghorst is a potential option, although it is suggested that he is likely to return to Burnley. Additionally, Marcus Rashford is considered to be more effective when deployed on the left wing rather than as a central striker.

Manchester United has a strong desire to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham, making him their primary target. However, their hopes of acquiring the services of the 29-year-old English striker are diminishing.

It is worth noting that Tottenham has not sold any players to United since Dimitar Berbatov in 2008. Additionally, with Real Madrid also expressing interest in Kane, United faces a formidable challenge in their pursuit of the player.

As an alternative option, Victor Osimhen from Napoli is being considered.

Manchester United has been linked with Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt and Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. These players are reportedly of interest to the club. Furthermore, Erik ten Hag, the United manager, is considering the addition of a new right-back, depending on the available budget.

In addition, Ten Hag is open to signing a new goalkeeper who can provide competition for the starting position currently held by David De Gea. This indicates that the club is exploring options to strengthen their goalkeeping department.
