Manchester United are considering the possibility of acquiring Ajax’s attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus as part of Erik ten Hag’s ongoing efforts to recruit players from his former club.

Kudus has attracted significant attention and speculation regarding a potential transfer to the Premier League, mainly due to his impressive performances for the Dutch team.

The 22-year-old displayed his talent by scoring 18 goals in 42 matches across various competitions last season and additionally provided seven assists.

Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the Ghanaian player closely. Kudus’s contract is set to expire in 2025.

There are indications that Kudus is eager for a move away from Ajax after rejecting a one-year contract extension. Ajax, who finished third in the Eredivisie and missed out on qualifying for the Champions League last season, is disappointed with this development.

His agent, Jennifer Mendelewitsch, recently confirmed his desire to leave, stating: “I think it is best for both Ajax and Mohammed that he makes a transfer now.

“Now is the right time. He has ignored a proposal to extend his contract until the summer of 2026. What I can say is that after the World Cup and this season there is a lot of interest in Kudus,” she added (quotes via De Telegraaf).

Ten Hag appears to be enthusiastic about bringing Kudus to Old Trafford, as he has already successfully recruited two players, Lisandro Martinez and Antony, from his former club, Ajax.

Following Manchester United’s reported conclusion of their prolonged pursuit of Mason Mount, the United manager has turned his attention towards exploring alternative options.

One player on the radar of the Dutch manager is Kudus, as the club has reportedly inquired about the potential availability of the versatile attacker, as stated by ESPN.

According to De Telegraaf’s podcast Kick-off, Kudus is said to be highly regarded by Ten Hag, placing him at the top of the manager’s list of potential targets.

Moreover, Kudus has demonstrated self-assurance by asserting that he is on par with Brazilian superstar Neymar, stating that Neymar is not superior to him. The two players had a heated exchange during a friendly match in September, when Brazil defeated Ghana 3-0. However, the loss only fueled Kudus’ ambition to establish himself as one of the world’s best players.

“He’s [Neymar] not better than me. He’s just a higher profile player, that’s all,” he told The Guardian in November.

Discussing the pair’s dispute, Kudus explained: “He was defending his country and I was defending mine. I wasn’t about to let him push me around. What makes him better, for now, is that he has achieved a lot.”

“I’ll get there soon,” he added.
