Fuming Erling Haaland: Referee Controversy Sparks Man City Outrage in Real Madrid Clash

A referee made contact with Erling Haaland at halftime during Manchester City’s draw with Real Madrid

Manchester City and Erling Haaland were furious after referee Francois Letexier accidentally slapped the striker in the face as they exited the pitch at halftime during Tuesday’s Champions League match.

The Norwegian was not on target at the Bernabeu as Pep Guardiola’s side drew 3-3 with Real Madrid in a European thriller, but he found himself in the middle of the action alongside the match official.

The striker was furious as he walked off the pitch with a 2-1 deficit after Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo’s deflected shots cancelled out Bernardo Silva’s opener.

He was walking towards the tunnel with referee Letexier after a first 45 minutes with few touches of the ball when the official accidentally hit Haaland with the back of his hand.

The referee, who was signalling in Haaland’s direction, was unaware of the incoming striker and caught him in the face, with City quick to inform Letexier of their displeasure.

The referee apologising to Erling Haaland.

He was quickly surrounded by several of Haaland’s teammates before apologising to him and informing the 23-year-old that he was referring to Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal.

But Haaland was uninterested in the referee’s apology and threw his arms up in protest, even though the incident ended peacefully and they left the pitch.

Haaland appeared unscathed for the second half following the incident with Letexier, but was unable to enter the game due to excellent marking by Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Instead, the buck was passed to his teammates, who responded admirably, with Phil Foden equalising in the second half with a superb curling effort from distance.

Josko Gvardiol came on minutes later and matched Phil Foden with another long-range strike, his first for the club, but Federico Valverde leveled the game with another wonder strike from the edge of the box, setting up another blockbuster in six days.
