Gabriel Jesus reveals he is ‘suffering’ at Arsenal because of the knee injury he suffered for Brazil at the 2022 Qatar World Cup

Gabriel Jesus has confessed to facing challenges during his time at Arsenal due to the knee injury he sustained while playing for Brazil in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The 26-year-old acknowledged that it has been a difficult period for him. However, he expressed optimism, mentioning that he started to feel more comfortable with his game after making appearances towards the end of the previous season and during the current pre-season.

He emphasized that he is still putting in a lot of effort to improve his fitness and strength in preparation for the upcoming Premier League campaign. He shared these thoughts during a press conference before Arsenal’s pre-season match against Barcelona.

Arsenal invested a substantial £45 million (according to BBC Sport) to acquire Gabriel Jesus’ skills last summer. They were hopeful that his experience of winning four Premier League titles with Manchester City would transfer successfully to the Emirates Stadium.

Initially, things were going smoothly for the agile and quick-thinking forward until the World Cup, where he suffered the knee injury. Although he managed to make a return in the final months of the season, he wasn’t fully recovered and couldn’t perform at his best.

Gabriel Jesus referred to this challenging situation as Arsenal prepared to continue their pre-season tour in America, with a match against Barcelona being their next fixture.

“Comparing with my injury on my foot in 2017, it’s so different,” said Jesus. “This is my first injury and I hope it’s the last one on the knee.

“Now, I am suffering a little bit more than my foot. It’s been hard. I am working hard to get fitness and then come back strong.

On whether he feels like a different animal now: “Yes, for sure. I want to help. I want to work. I want to learn from the Mister (Mikel Arteta) and with the players as well.”
