Six weeks ago, the German joined the Catalan club from Manchester City, but if he hasn’t been registered by Sunday, he could be packing his luggage.

Shortly after guiding City to a historic Treble, Gundogan characterized his transfer to Barcelona on a free transfer as a “dream.”

City offered the midfielder a contract extension, but Gundogan chose a pay reduction to facilitate his transfer to Barcelona.

Before the start of the new La Liga season this coming weekend, Gundogan has not yet been enrolled as a Barcelona player.

According to Forbes, a clause in his contract authorizes him to leave the club as a free agent on Sunday if he is not registered before the match against Getafe.

According to reports in Spain, Gundogan would continue to be paid for an entire year, a situation cash-strapped Barcelona would prefer to avoid.

Due to an injury sustained during the club’s preseason tour of the United States, the German’s tenure at Barcelona has not been the most successful.

After appearing in the second half of the loss to Arsenal, Gundogan hobbled out of the 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in Texas.

It remains to be seen whether he participates in Tuesday’s Joan Gamper Cup match against Tottenham.

This weekend, Bracelona will commence their La Liga title defense with only thirteen registered players.

Ousmane Dembele is expected to sign with Paris Saint-Germain, and Franck Kessie is the subject of an offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli.
