Inter has reportedly made a bid for Benjamin Pavard, a defender for Bayern Munich and a target of Manchester United.

WHAT’S GOING ON? According to reports, Bayern right-back Pavard is eager to leave the Bundesliga club and has no intention of extending his 2024 contract.

United have been linked to the 27-year-old, while Harry Maguire was rumored to be joining West Ham before that deal fell through, but Bild reports that Inter may beat the Premier League heavyweights to his signature.

According to the claim, the Serie A club has submitted a bid worth €25 million (£21 million/£27 million), an amount they may not exceed, whereas Bayern are demanding a minimum of €35 million (£30 million/$38 million).

THE BIG PICTURE: With United retaining Maguire for the time being, their need for defensive reinforcements is not as great as it once was, and Bild reports that their interest in Pavard has waned.

They are likely to have the financial resources to outspend Inter, but it remains to be seen if they will recruit the French World Cup champion, who can play fullback and center back.

Moreover, Pavard started against RB Leipzig in last weekend’s DFL-Supercup defeat for Bayern, which Bayern lost 3-0.

It is believed that manager Thomas Tuchel wants to retain the Frenchman despite his substitution at halftime.

WHAT’S NEXT? Pavard has roughly two weeks to find a new club before the transfer window closes on September 1.
