Jorginho, Partey, Timber – Latest Injury Updates and Return Timelines for West Ham Showdown

Up-to-date injury updates for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta getting a much-needed lift after the draw with Liverpool and before facing West Ham

Arsenal defeated Liverpool at Anfield in a fierce battle to keep their top spot in the Premier League.

The Gunners’ next Premier League match after Christmas at the Emirates Stadium will be against West Ham, after they drew 1-1 with the Reds.

Kai Havertz will miss that match since he was booked for the sixth time this season during the draw with Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta will, however, have players like Mohamed Elneny and Jorginho available for selection once more as both were part of the matchday squad on Saturday night at Anfield.

Though he is not anticipated to play until January, Thomas Partey is getting close to making a comeback to the field.

Having stated that, ahead of West Ham, soccerdaily has examined every injury update from Emirates Stadium.

Jorginho was not included in the matchday squad on Sunday as Arsenal defeated Brighton to take the lead in the Premier League standings.

With a foot ailment that kept him out of action, the Italian midfielder is expected to make a play this weekend on Merseyside.

When asked about his injuries after the victory over Brighton, the Italian midfielder told soccerdaily:

 “Getting better, getting better.”

And it proved to be true when Jorginho returned to the bench for the match against Liverpool away.

Expected return date: Returned

What Arteta has said: “Jorginho is still a doubt. He’s racing.”

Mohamed Elneny

The Champions League match against PSV saw the injury comeback of Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who had to be substituted out because of a possible hamstring problem.

Thanks to the approaching African Cup of Nations, it looks that the Egyptian international will be making a comeback shortly.

Re-added to the matchday roster for Liverpool at Anfield was the Egypt international.

Injury: Hamstring

Expected return date: Returned

What Arteta has said: “Mo Elneny hopefully will train with us today and we’ll see how he feels about it. The rest is no news.”

Thomas Partey

Soccerdaily knows that Partey has undergone a “procedure” that will keep him out for the rest of the year.

In his most recent report on his recuperation, Arteta, 30, did not indicate whether or not he will be ready to play Liverpool in their FA Cup third-round match at the beginning of 2024.

Before going to AFCON, Arsenal is hoping that Partey will make a comeback for the FA Cup match against Liverpool.

Injury: Thigh

Expected return date: Liverpool (H) – January 7

What Arteta has said: “He’s still finalising his rehab. He hasn’t trained with the team yet.”

Takehiro Tomiyasu

It is anticipated that Tomiyasu would be sidelined till the new year due to a calf injury he sustained during the second half of Arsenal’s game against Wolves.

With an FA Cup match against Liverpool coming up before Japan plays in the Asia Cup, Arsenal is hoping to see Tomiyasu back.

Injury: Calf

Expected return date: January

What Arteta has said : “We had a scan and it’s not good news. He’s got an injury in his calf and he’s going to be out for a while I think.”

Fabio Vieira

Vieira had surgery to treat a groin ailment that had been bothering her. The former Porto player has had difficulty getting into the game under Arteta thus far, and this recent setback is probably going to make things worse.

Injury: Groin

Expected return date: Mid to late January 2024

What Arteta has said: “Yeah we’ve got a problem with him. He’s been having some discomfort. We sent him to see a specialist and the advice was to have an operation in his groin. He did that yesterday. We don’t expect him back this side of the winter break.”

Jurrien Timber

Before the Premier League season began, Timber—who signed with the Gunners after leaving Ajax in the summer—suffered a terrible injury.

When Arsenal and Nottingham Forest played to a draw, the 22-year-old defender went down, holding his right knee.

In actuality, Timber’s ACL injury turned out to be less serious than initially thought, with a return window now projected for March through May of next year.

There is a rising consensus among fans that the former Ajax player should play before the current campaign ends. He was most recently photographed during Arsenal’s club trip to Rwanda.

Injury: ACL

Expected return date : Early 2024

What Arteta has said: “He’s doing really well. He’s going through a really significant injury but he’s flying at the stage that he is right now. The way that he works every day is very satisfying to watch.

“We’re still going to miss him for a long time. The first few steps are crucial for the amount of work they have to do in the knee to get the mobility and the strength back.”
