Joshua Kimmich verdict on Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool amid transfer rumours

Fresh reports indicate that Joshua Kimmich’s position at Bayern Munich may not be as secure as initially thought, making him a potential candidate to fill a significant gap in Liverpool’s midfield.

Since joining Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2015, the German international has enjoyed tremendous success, winning eight Bundesliga titles, three domestic cups, and one Champions League trophy. His adaptability, being able to play both in defense and midfield, has earned him a reputation as one of Europe’s most dependable players.

Kimmich’s profile doesn’t typically align with Liverpool’s usual transfer targets, given his established status. However, the current uncertainty surrounding the futures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson might lead the club to consider desperate measures.

Replacing experienced players within the squad entirely this summer wouldn’t be feasible for Liverpool. Nevertheless, there are indications that Kimmich’s current employers are now open to entertaining offers for him, which could make his potential arrival at Anfield one of the unexpected twists of the summer.

Despite both being German, Jurgen Klopp and Joshua Kimmich have not had the opportunity to work together. Klopp left Borussia Dortmund after the 2014/15 season, which was around the time when Kimmich had just started playing regularly for RB Leipzig, who had recently been promoted to the top-flight.

The first time they found themselves on opposing sides was in 2019 when Liverpool was drawn against Bayern Munich in the Champions League round-of-16.

Although Kimmich had previously been teammates with players like Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels, who had worked under Klopp in the past, Kimmich himself had no personal experience with the Liverpool boss. Nevertheless, he spoke highly and praised Klopp in the lead-up to the tie between Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

“It’s amazing how emotional he is, on the field, with the fans,” the Bayern star told the Independent.

“You can see how he pushes his players – he can push them to another level. Every player is better with this coach.

“When you see their style of playing, they have a really good defence, and their offensive line is also amazing. They have a lot of speed, they have players who are tough in the duels. It won’t be easy to fight against them. Jurgen Klopp did great work over there.”

While there is currently no solid evidence to suggest that Klopp would be the one to bring Joshua Kimmich to the Premier League, two factors are worth considering.

Firstly, it’s worth noting that a similar move has been successfully made in the past. Three years ago, Thiago Alcantara made the switch from Bayern Munich to Liverpool and has since shown that established midfielders can find a place in the Liverpool starting lineup.

Secondly, Klopp has recently made tactical adjustments to accommodate Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, blurring the lines between defense and midfield more than ever at Anfield. Klopp’s expertise in this area could prove to be invaluable in integrating a versatile player like Kimmich into the team should such a transfer ever come to fruition.
