Jurrien Timber has said two things Erik ten Hag and Manchester United wanted to hear

Jurrien Timber has been consistently rumored to join Manchester United, and the defender might have provided Erik ten Hag with two additional motives to prioritize his signing this summer.

Manchester United is currently exploring the potential of acquiring a fresh defensive player, as Ten Hag is eager to enhance the quality in that position. The team’s captain, Harry Maguire, might depart in order to secure more frequent playing time, thus creating a vacancy in the defensive segment of the squad.

United has been monitoring Timber since last summer, and they have made significant efforts to secure the Dutch player’s services before shifting their focus to Lisandro Martinez. However, despite the club’s continued interest, Timber remains linked with a potential move after another impressive season with his current club in the Eredivisie.

Timber stands out as a formidable defender who possesses versatility, technical abilities, and overall talent, making him an attractive prospect for top clubs, including Manchester United. However, in addition to his on-field abilities, Ten Hag also values the psychological aspect of a player’s mentality when it comes to competing for major trophies and honors.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United (referred to as “the Reds”), has been vocal about the requirement for his players to possess an elite mindset, similar to his own. This emphasis on mentality is crucial for him.

The signings of players such as Casemiro and Martinez serve as evidence of his high regard for leadership qualities within the team. These are core values that Timber once again demonstrated when discussing Ajax’s underwhelming season.

“We failed to win the title this year – and when that happens as an Ajax player, you have to feel ashamed,” Timber admitted. “That is not a usual thing for Ajax and it is not usual for me. All through my career, right from the youth academy, I have been used to winning titles.

“We have been brought up in an atmosphere of fighting for trophies and that is what I want. But everything that has happened in my career, including the year when I didn’t win the league, has made me stronger and has made me more convinced that I am a leader. Definitely.”

It is uncertain whether Manchester United will choose to revive their interest in Timber, as there is a possibility that the defender might end up joining another Premier League competitor, Arsenal.

However, similar to the situation with Martinez last summer, a single phone call to Erik ten Hag could be sufficient to persuade Timber to consider a transfer to Old Trafford. Furthermore, the defender has recently provided his former manager with two additional reasons to pursue his signing.
