Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara hints at a potential Anfield exit

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has suggested that he might leave Anfield during the upcoming summer transfer window, even though he is contracted to the Reds until the end of the following season.

Despite joining the club in 2020, the Spanish player has not performed as well as anticipated due to various injury issues.

Thiago’s lackluster performance last season, with only 16 Premier League appearances and no goals or assists, along with his extensive injury troubles that caused him to miss 19 games, has led to speculation about his departure from Anfield in the upcoming season.

On Monday, he further fueled these rumors by removing any reference to Liverpool from his Instagram bio, drawing attention from fans. While his Twitter bio still mentions the club, the alteration to his Instagram profile has raised concerns on social media about a potential exit.

However, according to reports from The Athletic, Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, does not anticipate losing Thiago. It is expected that the midfielder will fulfill the final year of his contract and possibly depart on a free transfer the following summer.

According to reports, Thiago is not expected to sign a new contract with Liverpool before his current agreement expires. This indicates that the upcoming season could be his final one at the club before he seeks opportunities elsewhere.

It remains to be seen how much he will be involved in the squad, especially considering the recent acquisition of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for a rumored fee of approximately £60 million.

Thiago’s injury-prone nature has made it challenging for him to maintain consistent fitness in recent years, raising concerns about his ability to remain available for the entire upcoming season. If he can avoid further setbacks, he would undoubtedly be a crucial player for Liverpool. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him sidelined once again before his contract expires next year.

There is no doubt about Thiago’s footballing prowess, as he established himself as one of the world’s top playmakers prior to joining Liverpool from Bayern Munich three years ago. Former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie has already advocated for the Reds to build their team around Thiago in the next season, assuming he remains fit and has the opportunity to showcase his true capabilities on a regular basis.

“They need to get young players in that midfield,” McAvennie told Football Insider. “[Harvey] Elliott is not ready for the Premier League yet, he will be a great player but Liverpool need an established player right now. Thiago is that guy but they have got to get players around about him.

“Get him fit to start pre-season and get him on the park because he is the guy that can control games. He is the one guy I would build my team around, as a centre-forward I would love to have him in the midfield. I think he is a wonderful player.”
