Liverpool’s Flickering Hope in Beating Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe’s Signature

Liverpool’s Flickering Hope in Beating Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe’s Signature

According to a recent report, there is still a small possibility for Liverpool to secure the signing of Kylian Mbappe.

The news surrounding Mbappe’s future has been making waves this week. The talented French player has informed Paris Saint-Germain that he does not plan to extend his contract, which is set to expire next year.

Mbappe previously signed a contract with PSG in 2022, which was initially presented as a three-year deal but was later revealed to be a two-year agreement with the potential for a third year. This decision came after it appeared that he was on the verge of joining his long-time admirers, Real Madrid.

As per the Spanish publication Marca, Liverpool has consistently been seen as the primary competitors to Real Madrid in their pursuit of the talented former Monaco player, who is regarded as the prized asset for the Santiago Bernabeu club.

Marca, assessing Real’s potential rivals for Mbappe, write: “The English side tried everything to convince the French player two seasons ago, but were eventually ruled out by Mbappe himself in favour of the Spanish side. Now they are a weakened team and out of the Champions League after a season to forget.

“The Europa League does not look like the ideal tournament for Mbappe, who is obsessed with lifting ‘La Orejona’ once and for all. The only slim hope is that the Frenchman will wait another year and head to Anfield in 2024.”

Ahead of the 2022/23 season, Kylian Mbappe confirmed that he had engaged in discussions with Liverpool before ultimately rejecting Real Madrid and signing a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Mbappe mentioned in an interview with the Telegraph that although there were some conversations with Liverpool, they were not extensive.

However, Ian Graham, the outgoing director of research at Anfield, recently disclosed that Mbappe’s financial demands place him beyond Liverpool’s financial capabilities. Graham highlighted that clubs like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, with their considerable financial resources, are the dominant players in the market.

“Any statistical model will tell you that Kylian Mbappe is the best player in Europe at the moment,” Graham said via The Guardian. “But unfortunately, financially, he’s out of Liverpool’s league. We’re looking for the best-performing players per pound.”
