Man City offered sensational swap deal by Barcelona that will leave Man Utd reeling

Reports suggest that Barcelona has made a highly attractive proposal to Manchester City, which, if accepted, is likely to upset their local rivals Manchester United.

Barcelona, the reigning champions of LaLiga, are eager to acquire the services of Bernardo Silva, a talented playmaker from City. Xavi, the manager of Barcelona, is known to greatly admire the abilities of the Portuguese international.

However, Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, is unwilling to give up one of the key contributors to the team’s successful season, despite rumors of Silva’s interest in the move. Manchester City currently values Silva at £70 million and may consider offers in that range.

Nevertheless, Barcelona’s offer could potentially introduce a surprising element to the negotiations.

According to the Daily Mirror, Barcelona, facing financial difficulties, is willing to offer Frenkie de Jong, a player long sought after by Manchester United, in exchange for Bernardo Silva.

Frenkie de Jong has been a primary target for United’s new manager, Erik ten Hag, both last summer and during the current transfer window.

It is now reported that a potential swap deal involving Silva and De Jong is a possibility. Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, is still keen to strengthen his central midfield options after the departure of Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona this summer.

Frenkie de Jong is currently in his prime and securing his transfer would be a significant achievement. However, losing Silva would be a substantial blow to Manchester City.

Silva voices need for fresh challenge

Since his arrival in 2017 from Monaco for an initial fee of £43.5 million, the 28-year-old Bernardo Silva has consistently been one of the standout players in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, after spending six years in England, he has expressed his eagerness to embark on a fresh endeavor and Barcelona appears to be a suitable destination to fulfill that desire.

Certainly, a swap deal between Barcelona and Manchester City could potentially benefit both clubs in both the short and long term, provided that Pep Guardiola approves of the arrangement.

Manchester City’s Premier League title defense is set to commence against Burnley, led by Vincent Kompany, on Friday, August 11.
