Man United confirm six players leaving as free agents as contracts expire today

Today, Manchester United are bidding farewell to six players as their contracts come to an end. As of June 30, the club has decided to part ways with these players, allowing them to seek new opportunities elsewhere.

Among the six, three have primarily played for the youth and academy teams, while the other three have had significant involvement in the first team in the past.

Ten Hag is determined to avoid dwelling on the past, and as part of his efforts to bring about a revolution within the team, he has approved the departures of Phil Jones, David de Gea, and Axel Tuanzebe.

Since Ten Hag’s arrival, he has had minimal involvement with Jones, as the defender has only made five appearances in the past three and a half years, mainly due to persistent knee problems. Despite his lengthy 12-year tenure at Manchester United, Jones’ playing time has been severely limited.

Although David de Gea had received an offer to extend his contract, it was presented with a substantial reduction in salary compared to his previous £375,000-a-week deal. However, reports suggest that Manchester United had a change of heart and ultimately decided not to proceed with the offer. As a result, de Gea’s contract has expired, and he has now officially departed from the club.

Ten Hag is eager to strengthen the goalkeeping options for his team, and one of his primary targets is Andre Onana from Inter Milan. Onana has previously worked with Ten Hag during their time together at Ajax.

Axel Tuanzebe, a product of the Manchester United academy, is another player who is leaving the club today. He has slipped further down the pecking order in the center-back position, behind new signings Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Tuanzebe had hoped to solidify his position in the United starting lineup after joining the team for their pre-season tour last summer. However, he faced a setback with a “personal issue” during the tour in Australia and struggled to regain his place in the squad.

Apart from Tuanzebe, three other players, namely Ethan Galbraith, Charlie Wellens, and Di’Shon Bernard, are also departing from Manchester United.
