Manchester United is anticipated to have a very active final two weeks of the transfer window, and a long-serving star could be set to leave the club for a Premier League rival.

Manchester United is willing to release Eric Bailly from the final year of his contract so he can depart the club.

The Ivorian seems unlikely to continue his career at Old Trafford. Initially recruited by Jose Mourinho, his contributions have been severely limited by injuries.

Since November 2021, he has not played for the Red Devils in a Premier League match.

Bailly was loaned to French club Marseille last season, but despite their option to purchase him permanently, they declined and he returned to Manchester.

Under Erik ten Hag, the 29-year-old seems unlikely to have a long-term future.

According to RMC Sport, Bailly has reached an agreement with the Red Devils that will enable him to leave the club this summer for free.

This would result in his departure from Old Trafford one year prior to the expiration of his current contract, which would be a devastating blow for United.

Bailly was originally acquired for £30 million in the summer of 2016 from Spanish powerhouse Villarreal.

In addition to Fulham, clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly also interested in recruiting him. Bailly has already denied a transfer to Besiktas, it is revealed.

The move would be in response to the defender’s controversial remarks, in which he appeared to imply that United favored English players and urged Ten Hag to alter that.

Bailly stated in an interview with The Times:

“[United] should avoid favouring English players and give everyone a chance.

Eric Baily was released by French club Marseille last season.

“[The club should] encourage competition in the dressing room, not just look out for some. I’ve always had the feeling that the national player was prioritised. That doesn’t happen at Chelsea or other big Premier League clubs.

“Some people take it for granted that they are going to start, and that weakens the team. Luckily, Ten Hag has a lot of character and I hope he can change that dynamic.”

Ten Hag responded to these claims, albeit with restraint.

“I cannot say [anything] about that. I was not in charge last season,”Dutchman responded.

“Not for me,” he responded , When asked if the nationality of a player would influence his decision-making.

Bailly has made 113 total appearances for the Red Devils since joining the club. This summer, he may not be the only defender on the move.

Harry Maguire’s departure has been rumored, with West Ham having accepted a £30 million proposal for his services.

Former Arsenal player Konstantinos Mavropanos is one of the alternatives being considered by the Hammers as a replacement for Antonio Valencia.

United is rumored to be interested in Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard as a potential replacement for Maguire.
