Man united now want Marc Guehi to replace Harry Maguire

Manchester United’s quest for a new central defender could now include Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

After months of rumors, it appears that Harry Maguire will leave Manchester United.

According to BBC Sport, West Ham United have agreed to pay £30 million for Maguire.

Maguire is eager to join West Ham, and personal circumstances are not anticipated to be an obstacle.

The 30-year-old United captain was relieved of his duties this summer, and the writing has been on the wall ever since.

United are content to let Maguire go, but Erik ten Hag and company must now strive to replace the England international with another defender.

Marc Guehi desired to play for Manchester United.

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace central defender Marc Guehi is one of four candidates being considered by United to replace Maguire.

The report adds that United may be priced out of a move for Guehi due to Palace’s high asking price.

As Chelsea sought to re-sign Guehi, the London Evening Standard reported in July that Palace were demanding £50 million for him.

This will be a difficult undertaking for United, as the asking price will only increase as the transfer deadline approaches.

Guehi has flourished in his two seasons at Palace since joining in the summer of 2021 from Chelsea.

The 23-year-old is currently an England international, and while advancing his career with United could be enticing, Palace will not sell.

Who else is desired for United’s defense?

The Mail also mentions Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice, Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, and Benjamin Pavard of Bayern Munich.

The price tags for Tapsoba and Guehi are likely to be astronomical, significantly higher than what United will receive for Maguire.

Both players have ample time remaining on their contracts, and neither club is actively seeking to sell.

Todibo continues to be linked to United, and if recent rumors are accurate, he may be the most likely signing.

After a difficult period with Barcelona, the Frenchman, who was once compared to Raphal Varane, has gotten his career back on track with Nice.

United would be a significant move up, but Todibo will be eager to prove himself with a European powerhouse.

However, Pavard should not be ruled out, particularly given that he is now in the final year of his Bayern contract.

Pavard’s versatility as a center back and left back could entice Bundesliga heavyweights to accept a reduced price for him before he departs for nothing.

We believe that Todibo and Pavard are more probable than Guehi and Tapsoba, but United has been busy this summer and it’s impossible to rule out another significant signing.
