Man Utd Delighted: ‘Outstanding’ Hero Receives Injury Boost Ahead of Coventry Clash

It’s good news for Erik Ten Hag.

According to journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Manchester United has received good news about a “outstanding” player’s injury return ahead of their match against Coventry City.

Do-or-die game for Manchester United at Wembley

On Sunday afternoon, the Red Devils will play in the FA Cup semi-finals against Coventry, who are currently in the Championship.

They are vying for a spot in the play-offs in the final weeks of the season, but for the time being, their primary goal is to cause a major FA Cup upset.

For United, this is an absolute must-win game, not only because losing to lower-ranked opponents would be embarrassing, but also because it feels like their last chance to play this season.

Granted, European qualification is still possible in the Premier League, but their chances of competing in the Champions League next season appear to be over.

It’s also a big game for Erik ten Hag, who is currently battling to keep his job. A defeat to Coventry could be the final straw for him, but winning the competition could arguably be enough to justify his continued position at Old Trafford.

United have dealt with significant injury issues throughout the season, with key players such as Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw currently out, but a positive update has emerged regarding one player, providing a boost for the Dutchman.

“Outstanding” Manchester United hero ready for Coventry clash

Taking to X on Friday, Luckhurst confirmed that Antony, along with Scott McTominay, will return for United this weekend.

“McTominay and Antony are due to be back in the squad vs Coventry. Harry Maguire will train today after missing sessions this week as a precaution.”

This is excellent news for United, who need as many players as possible at Wembley on a day when extra time and penalties may be required to defeat Coventry.

Granted, Antony has had a disappointing season overall, scoring only twice in all competitions, but one of those goals was a huge one, coming late in the day at home to Liverpool in the memorable 4-3 win in the previous round of the FA Cup, which forced extra time.

Earlier this season, former United defender Phil Bardsley praised the Brazilian, saying:

His attitude was outstanding defensively. With Garnacho they doubled up. Every man has to put a shift in, and them two today was outstanding.”

It would be surprising if Antony started against Coventry; even if he was fully fit, he would likely be on the bench, with Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Rasmus Hojlund leading the attack.

His speed and trickery could be invaluable as a substitute, especially when legs tire and space opens up on the pitch.

Another significant FA Cup contribution would boost his reputation at a time when more consistency is required of him.
