Man Utd Quartet’s Fate Hangs in Balance: Ratcliffe’s Ruthless Ultimatum

Man Utd Quartet’s Fate Hangs in Balance: Ratcliffe’s Ruthless Ultimatum

According to a remarkable report, Manchester United will consider offers for four high-profile first-team players unless they agree to contract extensions on reduced terms.

A summer of significant change is on the horizon at Old Trafford. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United’s new co-owner, has wasted no time in overhauling the club’s hierarchy.

The new CEO is Omar Berrada, and Jason Wilcox has taken over as technical director from Darren Fletcher.

According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, United’s pursuit of Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth will go to arbitration after the clubs were unable to reach an agreement on a suitable compensation fee.

Erik ten Hag’s position as manager is under serious scrutiny, and the Dutchman’s underperforming squad is set to be gutted.

Numerous reports in recent days have identified more than a dozen first-team players who could leave United at the end of the season.

Sofyan Amrabat will return to Fiorentina after his underwhelming loan spell. Meanwhile, Tom Heaton, Brandon Williams, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, and Anthony Martial are all out of contract this summer.

According to the Manchester Evening News, permanent offers will be considered for Alvaro Fernandez, Donny van de Beek, Hannibal Mejbri, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, and Facundo Pellistri.

Antony is another person TEAMtalk has learned can leave if appropriate bids are submitted.

According to a new ESPN report, four more players could be released from Old Trafford if they do not sign new contracts with lower salaries.

The four players in question are Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Scott McTominay.

Why Manchester United’s ultimatum makes perfect sense

The only thing these four have in common is that their contracts are all set to expire at the end of next season.

United has an option to extend Maguire and McTominay’s contract by another year.

Nonetheless, all four Old Trafford stars’ futures are at a crossroads. If any of the quartet are unwilling to sign new contracts, a sale this summer to ensure Man Utd can extract the most value makes complete sense.

ESPN added the foursome. ‘Could leave for suitable offers [this summer], unless they’re willing to sign new contracts on reduced terms.’

None of the four are guaranteed to start at Old Trafford. Diogo Dalot is preferred over Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back, while McTominay has been in and out of the starting lineup throughout the season.

When healthy, Lisandro Martinez is United’s only reliable center-back. Ten Hag has alternated between Varane, Maguire, Lindelof, and Evans during Martinez’s various absences this term.

Ratcliffe is thought to be keen on reducing United’s massive wage bill. While the four players named by ESPN are not among the club’s highest earners, Manchester United’s alleged ultimatum makes sense given their status as squad players at best.
