Manchester City makes reported Liverpool target Benjamin Pavard a new priority in the transfer window

Manchester City has placed a significant emphasis on signing Benjamin Pavard, who has been previously linked with Liverpool, during the current transfer window.

Pavard, who has spent four years at Bayern Munich, appears likely to leave the club this summer, with Liverpool being among the teams interested in acquiring him.

However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano’s tweet, Manchester City has now taken the lead in the race to sign the player, surpassing their Premier League rivals.

“Manchester City have now Benjamin Pavard on top of their list as new right back,” Romano says. “Pavard is Man City’s priority in case Kyle Walker will join Bayern, deal advanced on player side but not completed yet.

“Bayern and City will discuss about Walker and Pavard.”

If Benjamin Pavard was considered a suitable choice for Liverpool in the context of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s adjusted position, then his suitability for Manchester City is even more apparent.

Pep Guardiola has been employing inverted full-backs as a tactical approach at the Etihad for quite some time, often utilizing four center-backs in the defensive line.

Considering that Pavard could potentially be an improvement over players like Nathan Ake, who currently occupies the left-back position, his signing would appear to be a clever move by Manchester City.

Certainly, Benjamin Pavard may not possess the blistering pace and attacking prowess of Kyle Walker, but he brings a host of other valuable attributes to the team. This signing serves as another indication that Manchester City remains determined and focused on their ambitions.

However, it’s worth noting that Liverpool is also quietly undergoing a rebuilding phase themselves. They have already seen the departure of their captain, Ilkay Gundogan. Additionally, there are potential rumors of Bayern Munich targeting Kyle Walker, which could result in the potential departures of Bernardo Silva, Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo, and Riyad Mahrez.

Nevertheless, Liverpool possesses the financial resources to address these changes if necessary, and they will still be considered a formidable team in the league. The acquisition of a World Cup winner like Benjamin Pavard for a reasonably priced fee of £34 million further reinforces Manchester City’s status as a strong contender in the league.
