Manchester City now focusing on signing Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga after backing away from Declan Rice

Manchester City is expressing strong interest in Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, with reports linking him to both Arsenal and Liverpool. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, City has recently joined the pursuit to secure Veiga’s signature.

It is believed that Veiga has emerged as one of City’s primary targets as they actively seek to bolster their midfield options. Following Ilkay Gündoğan’s departure and City’s decision to withdraw from the race for Declan Rice, who appears to be heading to Arsenal, Mateo Kovacic has been acquired.

However, City remains keen on acquiring another midfielder, with Veiga now being considered as an alternative to Rice.

According to Romano, Chelsea and Liverpool are still interested in securing the signing of Gabri Veiga. However, Manchester City has received updated information regarding the potential deal and is now well-informed about the situation.

It is widely anticipated that Veiga will leave Celta Vigo during the current summer transfer window, as his release clause is set at €40 million (£35 million).

Gabri Veiga can add goal threat for Manchester City

Gabri Veiga had a remarkable breakthrough season in La Liga, establishing himself as a rising star. The 21-year-old delivered impressive performances, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 36 league matches for Celta Vigo, showcasing his potential to become a superstar in the future.

Veiga’s noteworthy performance on the final day of the season deserves special mention, as he netted two goals against Barcelona, securing Celta’s safety. His standout displays have caught the attention of top clubs, and Manchester City’s interest in him comes as no surprise.

Pep Guardiola, being well-informed about Veiga’s emergence in Spain, may believe that he can develop the young Celta player into a consistent goal-scoring talent. While Veiga has attracted interest from various clubs, including Arsenal, the Gunners shifted their focus towards pursuing Declan Rice instead.

Back in April, it was reported by Faro de Vigo that Arsenal was Veiga’s preferred destination for a summer transfer, with manager Mikel Arteta expressing interest in the midfielder.

However, there is still a possibility that Veiga could end up in the Premier League with Manchester City rather than Arsenal. Moreover, acquiring Veiga would likely be a more cost-effective option for City compared to pursuing Declan Rice.
