Manchester United ready to pay release clause to sign ‘the next Cristiano Ronaldo’ in Goncalo Ramos: report

There are strong indications that Manchester United is on the verge of making their first signing of the summer transfer window. Benfica president Rui Costa believes that the Red Devils are prepared to meet the release clause for their talented striker Goncalo Ramos, who has earned the nickname ‘the next Cristiano Ronaldo’.

The acquisition of a new striker is crucial for both Erik ten Hag and Manchester United this summer, especially considering the injury troubles faced by Anthony Martial, who is currently the only senior center-forward at the club. Wout Weghorst has already left following his loan spell from Burnley.

While the names of Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, and Rasmus Hojlend have been circulating in recent weeks and months, it seems that Ramos may be the one who will join Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.

As reported by Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha, it is stated that an unnamed club made an offer of €50 million with an additional €10 million in add-ons to Benfica for the transfer of Goncalo Ramos.

However, Benfica’s president, Rui Costa, has reportedly rejected this offer. While the desired price for Ramos is believed to be around €80 million, previous reports suggest that his release clause is set at a value higher than €100 million.

According to Correio da Manha, Rui Costa believes that Manchester United is willing to match the release clause for Goncalo Ramos, but they face competition from PSG for his signature. Both clubs are considered to be the frontrunners in the race to secure Ramos during the early stages of the transfer window.

Ramos garnered attention during the 2022 World Cup when he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the knockout stages of the tournament and scored a hat-trick against Switzerland. He continued to impress throughout the season for Benfica, contributing significantly to their title-winning campaign with 27 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.
