Mason Mount, in a surprising move, has disclosed that he was originally a fan of Portsmouth but later switched his allegiance from Chelsea to Manchester United.

The talented English player has joined Old Trafford for an initial sum of £55 million.

Excited about his new team, Mount is eager to start playing, as he has been thoroughly impressed by Erik ten Hag’s vision and the role he has planned for him.

On Wednesday, Manchester United officially announced the signing of Mason Mount, and the 24-year-old will don the prestigious No. 7 jersey at Old Trafford.

Interestingly, Mount has now admitted that he was a supporter of Portsmouth and vividly remembers witnessing Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarkable free-kick against his beloved team back in 2008.

Speaking to club media, Mount said: “I was probably around 10, I was there in the away end, supporting my team Pompey and was able to witness that special moment.

“I think that video of me taking the free-kick [for Chelsea’s academy] was after that day.

“It inspired me and seeing that moment at Old Trafford, in the away end, I was in awe of that situation and that iconic moment. I’d love to now replicate it.”

Mount is filled with anticipation as he looks forward to commencing his journey at Manchester United and eagerly awaits the start of the pre-season period.

“Pre-season is huge, gets you in the right shape going into the season,” he said.

“The most important thing for me was getting there and being ready on day one and being able to meet all the players and the manager to get working because we have a big season ahead.

“We want to win trophies, we want to be successful.

“It was big for me to get here on day one and get started straight away.”
