Paris Saint-Germain Fans Allegedly Target FC Barcelona Hotel in Incident Caught on Video

According to a video posted on social media by CL Press, FC Barcelona’s hotel was ‘attacked’ by Paris Saint-Germain fans in the middle of the night before the two teams faced off in a Champions League quarterfinal first leg.

The agency explained in the caption to the video on X, formerly known as Twitter, that at around 04:10 a.m. local time on Wednesday, PSG supporters set off fireworks near the hotel where Xavi Hernandez and his team were sleeping.

Loud explosions and noises can be heard in the 24-second video, which shows the person filming approaching the hotel, which has a police presence outside.

The tactic, dubbed a ‘attack’ by Catalan media, is widely used in Europe and around the world to disrupt the visiting team’s sleep in the hopes of improving their performance later on the pitch.

In this case, the incident occurred after a PSG ultras group invited fans with tickets to watch their team play at the Parc des Princes in order to create a “hostile” environment for a “despicable” FC Barcelona, which is “often favored by referees”.

“It is our duty to make the Parc a terrifying fortress for our adversaries,” stated an official letter from the Collectif Ultras Paris.

“On Wednesday our team faces Barca. Our role will be crucial, and we ask everyone to help.

“Let’s get to the stadium early, dress in red and blue, and make our opponents tremble as they jump onto the field for the warm-up,” the group insisted.

Barcelona is not thought to have the best record at the Parc des Princes, but a fantastic 3-1 quarterfinal victory there in 2014/2015 should inspire confidence.

Luis Enrique, now the manager of PSG, led the Catalans that day, with a brilliant brace from Luis Suarez and another strike from Neymar helping Barcelona win its last UCL title in Berlin.

Only a few seasons later, Barcelona lost 4-0 at the same stadium, but they did reverse the last-16 scoreline with the famous 5-1 remontada, which Luis Enrique also oversaw.
