Southampton has secured the services of Shea Charles, a midfielder from Northern Ireland, in a four-year agreement believed to be valued at a maximum of £15 million.

The 19-year-old, who had his first appearance in the Premier League during the last matchday of the previous season, represents the second signing of the summer for Southampton’s new manager, Russell Martin.

Martin expressed his admiration for Charles, describing him as a highly skilled, intelligent, and mature young player with significant prospects for growth and improvement at Southampton.

“He has been well schooled at Manchester City, coming through an elite Academy all the way to the first team. We’ve watched him closely and we’re confident he’s got the right attributes to help us in the way we’re going to play.”

Charles has joined Southampton alongside Romeo Lavia, Samuel Edozie, and Juan Larios, all of whom also made the move from Manchester City to the Saints.

“I feel like the main thing is promotion for this club, because we belong in the Premier League. I can’t wait to start pre-season and get into the Championship games,” Charles added.

According to reports, the agreement between Southampton and Manchester City for Shea Charles is said to include a sell-on clause, meaning that City would be entitled to a percentage of any future transfer fee if Southampton were to sell Charles.

Additionally, City also has a buy-back option, allowing them the opportunity to reacquire Charles in the future for a predetermined price.
