Ten Hag pinpoints Man United main problem that needs urgent addressing after Real Madrid defeat

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, pointed out that the lack of a skilled striker was a crucial factor in his team’s defeat against Real Madrid.

In a pre-season friendly, United lost 2-0 to Real Madrid, with the goals coming from their new signings, Jude Bellingham and Joselu, at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Despite both teams having an equal number of shots on goal and shots on target, the decisive distinction was that Real Madrid effectively converted their scoring chances, whereas United suffered from their inability to be ruthless in the attacking areas.

Last season, this issue was a significant concern, which is why Ten Hag emphasized the urgent need for a prolific goalscorer as a top priority during the transfer window.

When asked by journalists about the high number of missed chances in the Real Madrid game, Ten Hag responded affirmatively, stating, “Absolutely,” thereby confirming his belief in the necessity of acquiring a frontman to address the team’s goal-scoring challenges.

In his conversation with MUTV, Erik ten Hag shared his assessment of Andre Onana’s individual performance against the Spanish giants, Real Madrid.

Ten Hag told club media, “When you play against Real Madrid, you will concede chances because it’s a very good team. But overall, [he played] really quite well.”

“He was there when we conceded chances and I think everyone has seen he made a good debut.”

The Manchester United manager was questioned about Kobbie Mainoo’s injury and the potential severity of the midfielder’s setback. He was asked to provide information and details about the extent of Mainoo’s injury.

He remarked, “I understand the question but you can never tell straight after a game. We have to wait for what it is. Hopefully, he is not too bad and chances will come.”

After the game, Kobbie Mainoo was seen using crutches and wearing a protective boot on his leg, indicating the seriousness of his injury.

Now, both Manchester United and Erik ten Hag’s focus will turn to their upcoming match against Borussia Dortmund at the Allegiant Stadium, which is scheduled for Monday.
