Xavi planning new role for Ferran Torres at Barcelona

According to reports, Barcelona’s coach, Xavi Hernandez, is planning to deploy Ferran Torres in a different position for the upcoming season.

Despite rumors linking Torres to a transfer away from the club, he has expressed a strong desire to stay and continue his development.

Diario Sport speculates that Torres might be utilized centrally, playing as a No. 9, instead of his usual positions on the flanks at Barcelona.

This possibility arose after Torres replaced Robert Lewandowski during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal and managed to score the team’s third goal. This indicates that a positional change could be in the cards for him.

The report further mentions that Xavi has a preference for Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele on the right side, which happens to be Ferran Torres’ preferred position. This could potentially mean that if Torres wants to secure regular playing time, he might have to adapt to a new role on the team.

As for backup options for Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona doesn’t have many alternatives. Ansu Fati could be considered as one option, but he has appeared more comfortable playing on the left rather than as a central striker.

More insights into Xavi’s plans for the team may be revealed during the weekend when Barcelona plays their next match. Following that, they have a highly significant fixture, the Clasico against Real Madrid, which will take place in Texas.
